Using other databases and backend-systems

Hello everybody,

is it possible to use other data and databases outside the sap system, for example Outlook and Excel and are several Sap backend systems are accessed via one frontend system? Can I use odata-services?

Thank you for your support.

With best regards

Marcel

Hello Marcel,

It is possible to consume and exchange data with other non-sap systems.  Mainly, you have two options, and the choice of which one is the most appropriate depends on each specific use-case.

Option1: integrate in the backend, in the ABAP class, as you would do in any other ABAP report / FM, using interfaces, iDocs, etc.

Option2: integrate in the frontend, using javascript, to send ajax-calls to other systems, consume o-data, etc.

You can consume o-Data services if you want to, but it is not a requirement to run Neptune.  Neptune itself is tightly integrated with SAP Netweaver and does not need any Gateway or middleware.

Here you have an example of an app consuming oData:  https://template.neptune-software.com/neptune/sdk/EXP_SAMPLE_ODATA

(much slower than Neptune's native JSON).

Kind regards,

Julian
